The Grande Reserve is for the best parcels of fruit, as it both reveals and preserves your fruit. It puts the fruit on a pedestal and showcases it in a pure way. Fine structure, rolling tannins, lifted aromatics. If you want to highlight your fruit and give it the respectful structure it deserves, look no further.

    Very Very Fine Grain

Forest blend favouring the Central forests

    Maturation time - 18 - 36 months months

Suitable for Shiraz, Cabernet, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and other red varietals

If the Grande Reserve is for the best parcels of fruit, this is reserved for the best of the best. It is very similar to the Grande Reserve, however it is a finer grain selection again. So, finer structure, more fruit purity, finer tannins, more lifted aromatics.

When applied to a great parcel of fruit, no barrel can respect and showcase this fruit better.

  • 36 months seasoning

    Mid Grain

Forest blend favouring the Eastern forests

    Maturation time - 6 - 12 months months

Suitable for Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Marsanne, Roussanne, Viogner and other white varietals

The Sylvain Blanc barrel was developed over many years of trials at Chateau La Perrier, and is a testament to the advantages that Famille Sylvain has in the market. It was designed specifically for white varietals and integrates very early.

By choosing the forests and grain selections carefully, and using a custom toast, the barrel provides fine structure to the wine and keeps oak aromatics low, allowing delicate fruit flavours and aromatics to shine.

  • The range of Sylvain barrels is available in Biodynamic format. These barrels are entirely made according to biodynamic principles.

The trees are felled in line with the lunar and planetary calendars, and every subsequent step of the manufacturing process follows suit.

  • The 500L and 600L Vinification barrels were designed to allow for easy vinification within a new oak barrel. By fermenting within the barrel, the oak integration is seamless and creates the perfect harmony between the wine and the wood.

The vinification barrels come with a stainless steel door (255mm) and racking valve. Optional extras include a tasting valve, galvanised rack with rollers, and more.

Being 3 years seasoned in a chimney stack, the Tradition barrels are the most respectful barrel, and will simply act in the background to open up your wine and give it more volume and uplift. If you have all the elements you want in your fruit, the Tradition barrel will respect and enhance these.

The Tradition barrel is very popular in Australia due to its respectful nature and flexibility to work across short and long maturation times.

Being the finest grain selection in the range, the Grande Selection suits more premium wines and premium fruit parcels. It adds structure and length to wine. It also works well for longer ageing of 12+ months.

The Grande Selection is the main Meyrieux barrel used in Burgundy across both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Marc Grenier Casks and Vats

  • Marc Grenier foudres are made bespoke to each customer's needs. Ranging from 800L to 9,000L and available in round, oval or ovoid. 80% of the work is carried out by hand, such is the artisanal nature of foudre manufacturing.

Uniquely, all staves used for foudres are split with the grain (as is done with barriques). Most other foudre manufacturers saw their staves. This method results in less wine penetrating the staves.

With less wine penetration, the oak influence is more harmonious and elegant. More subtle as well. And with less wine inside the wood, the risk of microbial infection is also reduced.

As foudres are made bespoke for you, there is no "standard" price list. It costs nothing to get a quote, and we'd be happy to provide you with a price which includes delivery to your winery.

  • All Marc Grenier vats are made to order, and can range from 800L to 10,000L (although for export, we are limited by the size of the shipping container). They are ubiquitous in Burgundy, yet 50% of vats produced are exported all over the world, including to Australia.

The number of options available is extensive, and we'll happily guide you on what options may be suitable.
